Position Summary:

The Community Inclusion Manager will serve as an integral member of the Diversity and Inclusion (D&I) department to ensure that HRC governors and steering committee members have the strategic direction, guidance and support needed to meet the diversity, inclusion and engagement goals of the organization.


Position Responsibilities:

  • Provide direct guidance, onboarding and ongoing support to members of HRC’s Board of Governors and steering committee Community Engagement Co-Chairs and sub-committees to develop and implement clearly defined D&I programs, strategies, and action plans.
  • Coordinate and support HRC’s National Board of Governors diversity & inclusion Co-chairs and committee
  • Partner with other HRC staff working with board and steering committees to extend training to volunteers and boards.
  • Manage systems to monitor goals and benchmarks and ensure accountability, tracking, and monitoring of steering committee and governors D&I efforts and impact.
  • Work with the Director of Diversity & Inclusion and the Field team to provide support around the development, execution and tracking of progress towards achieving annual steering committee community engagement goals for each steering committee.
  • Provide coaching to develop culturally competent volunteers who are able to embrace and embody the core principles and practices of diversity and inclusion that are critical to our organizational success.
  • Prepare and deliver engaging/effective in-person and online training, presentations and discussions on a wide variety of diversity and inclusion topics.
  • Help prepare periodic reports to senior HRC leaders.
  • Inspire volunteers to achieve new levels of D&I expertise, confidence, and productivity.
  • Keep abreast of HRC’s climate by regularly talking with all stakeholders.
  • Represent HRC at various community, civic, and professional meetings and conferences as requested.
  • Provide organizational support to implement internal D&I goals.
  • Other duties as assigned. 


Requirements

Position Qualifications:

  • Commitment to LGBTQ equality is required.
  • Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent work experience) and minimum three years related experience. Candidates with substantially greater experience will be considered for hiring at a senior level.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Experience with public speaking, facilitation and training & development of diversity and inclusion initiatives.
  • Foundational knowledge about racial and gender justice issues, and inclusion concepts like intersectionality required.
  • Demonstrated cultural competency across multiple communities. Experience working within underrepresented/marginalized communities a plus.
  • Well-organized, detail-oriented, goal-driven and confirmed ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects with a positive attitude, meeting tight deadlines in a fast-paced, highly-collaborative environment.
  • Must be self-motivated.
  • High emotional intelligence and ability to negotiate through conflict. Excellent active listening skills.
  • Strong project management skills.
  • The ability to maintain confidentiality, strong professional ethics and business acumen are required.
  • Ability to effectively work across a wide variety of constituency groups (including volunteers and donors) and organize support for goals and plans.
  • Ability to function with a high level of independence and to work collaboratively.
  • Excellent judgment, political sensitivity and the ability to act collaboratively and discreetly.
  • Exceptional time-management skills, work ethic and ability to work under tight deadlines and multi-task.
  • Ability to create and maintain relationships with national and local LGBTQ groups and organizations from all communities.
  • Ability to effectively use a variety of computer programs including Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, Access, Google Apps, Project and other applications, including web-based tools
  • Fluent Spanish is a plus.
  • This position requires a willingness, ability and flexibility to regularly work hours that vary from standard office hours, including weekends and evenings to support events and meetings.
  • Some travel is required, including weekends.
